Role Summary
We are seeking a versatile Electronics & Automation Engineer to join our technical team. You will bridge the gap between hardware engineering, assembly, firmware configuration, and automated control systems. This role is split between ensuring the flawless assembly and bench-testing of digital price/pharmacy displays at our Clondalkin facility, and providing expert tier-2 component-level technical support, diagnostic repair, and custom automation validation.
Key Responsibilities
1. Engineering, Assembly & Automation Integration
Configure, test, and calibrate custom automated control elements, including automatic brightness control modules, ambient light photodiode sensors, and dimming circuitry.
Integrate and program control cards (e.g., Novastar, HD, or Linnos numerical display systems) to interface seamlessly with retail POS systems and cloud-based scheduling platforms.
Oversee and optimize the internal assembly of specialized digital signage inserts, power supply distributions (DC 5V/12V/24V), and control wiring.
Design and program simple PLC routines or automation scripts to stream/test data loops across diagnostic benches.
2. Hardware QA & Diagnostics
Perform component-level diagnostic assessments and repair on returned or pre-production electronic assemblies (PCB fault-finding, soldering/rework, multi-meter testing).
Rigorously test LED modules for uniform color mixing, color balancing, refresh rates, and long-term thermal stability under stress conditions.
Develop and implement automated testing protocols to simulate field conditions (direct sunlight visibility, dusk-level sensor triggers).
3. Technical Consultations & Field Support Coordination
Collaborate with our pre-production sales engineering team to verify custom wire layouts, power consumption restrictions, and spacing requirements for signage manufacturers.
Provide advanced back-up technical support to field service personnel and electrical contractors regarding complex control configurations and connectivity issues.
Required Qualifications & Technical Skills
Education: Bachelor’s Degree or Diploma in Electronic Engineering, Automation Engineering, Mechatronics, or a closely related technical discipline.
Electronics Expertise: Strong practical understanding of digital logic, DC power systems, low-voltage power distribution, and serial communication protocols (RS232, RS485, I2C, SPI, Modbus, TCP/IP).
LED/Display Knowledge: Experience working with synchronous/asynchronous LED display control systems, video processors, or numeric multiplexing systems.
Hands-on Skills: Proficiency with electrical test bench equipment (Oscilloscopes, DMMs, variable DC power supplies) and high-quality soldering/SMD rework techniques.
Software/Firmware: Familiarity with LED display management software, basic firmware updating, and configuring IP networks. Basic scripting or PLC programming experience is highly advantageous.
