Plant Mechanic (Plant Fitter) Heavy plant & commercial vehicles • Yard- and site-based Hours: 39 hour week Pay: €40,000 to €50,000 Nurney Plant & Civil Ltd (NPC) is a groundworks and civil engineering contractor. We are looking for an experienced plant mechanic to keep our fleet of excavators, dozers, dumpers and trucks safe, serviceable and on the job. The role is based in our yard workshop with regular travel to sites, and covers both heavy plant and commercial vehicles. THE FLEET YOU'LL LOOK AFTER • Komatsu excavators and dozers • Hitachi excavators • Site dumpers • Volvo articulated dump trucks (ADTs) • Volvo and Renault trucks (HGVs) KEY RESPONSIBILITIES • Carry out routine servicing and planned maintenance — oils, filters, greasing and inspections — to manufacturers' schedules. • Diagnose and repair faults across diesel engines, hydraulics, transmissions, drivetrains, brakes, steering and electrical / auto-electrical systems. • Use diagnostic equipment and manufacturer software to fault-find and clear faults. • Attend breakdowns in the yard and on site, getting machines back up and running with minimum downtime. • Prepare trucks and commercial vehicles for CVRT (DOE test) and carry out the repairs needed to pass. • Carry out welding and fabrication repairs. • Undercarriage, track, tyre, bucket, pin and bush work. • Inspect plant on and off hire and before delivery, and report defects. • Keep accurate service records, job cards and defect reports. • Order and manage parts as required. • Work safely at all times and keep the workshop clean, tidy and compliant. ESSENTIAL REQUIREMENTS • Time-served or apprentice-qualified plant fitter / HGV mechanic (QQI, City & Guilds or equivalent), or equivalent proven experience. • Solid experience servicing and repairing heavy plant and/or commercial vehicles. • Strong knowledge of diesel engines, hydraulic systems and auto-electrics. • Confident fault-finding using diagnostic laptops and equipment. • Welding and basic fabrication skills. • Full, clean driving licence (Category B). • Valid Safe Pass card. • Able to work on your own initiative, manage your own workload, and work both in the yard and on site. • Flexible for occasional call-outs and overtime to keep sites moving. DESIRABLE (AN ADVANTAGE) • Category C / CE (truck) licence for road-testing and moving machines. • CSCS card or plant maintenance ticket. • Manufacturer training on Komatsu, Hitachi, Volvo or Renault. • Experience preparing vehicles for CVRT. • Telehandler or forklift ticket. • Own set of hand tools.
