Their duties and responsibilities include:
• Laying bricks, blocks and other masonry materials with accuracy
• Mixing, preparing and applying mortar
• Reading construction plans and technical drawings
• Measuring build areas and marking guidelines
• Building or repairing walls, chimneys and structural features
• Follow safety and compliance standards and work efficiently to meet project deadlines.
• Physical stamina for working outdoors and for long periods
• Ability to measure, cut and shape brickwork accurately
• Familiarity with modern building regulations and sustainability practices
• Working with materials such as brick, stone, terracotta and glass blocks
• Knowledge of masonry tools, materials and construction techniques
• Operating tools such as trowels, spirit levels, brick saws and plumb lines
• Maintaining site safety standards and complying with building regulations
• Collaborating with site managers, contractors and other trades
• Adapting to modern construction methods, including prefabricated elements and new sustainability materials
Other skills that may be required for the job may include:
• Knowledge of masonry tools, materials and construction techniques
• Ability to read drawings, plans and specifications
• Strong manual skills and hand-eye coordination
• Physical stamina for working outdoors and for long periods
• Understanding of health and safety standards on site
• Ability to measure, cut and shape brickwork accurately

• Awareness of the digital site-management tools increasingly used in construction
